Thousands of people march in support of Malaysia government in Kuala Lumpur

Thousands of people join a pro-government rally in Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, amid concerns it could stoke racial tensions.

Two weeks ago, an anti-government rally was staged calling for PM Najib Razak’s resignation over financial scandal. It was observed that anti-government ethnic Chinese attended the rallies.

Malays make up about two-thirds of Malaysia’s population and play prominent roles in government and the civil service. Ethnic Chinese represent about a quarter of the population but own considerably more than that share of the wealth.
