Overturned tree unfolds a 1,000-year-old murder mystery of a young man in medieval Ireland

A tree was overturned when a storm hit the town of Collooney, located about 125 miles northwest of Dublin. And a surprising discovery unfolds:

The tree was 200 years old, but hidden beneath it was a mystery from nearly 1,000 years ago: the skeleton of a young man who died a brutal death in medieval Ireland.

According to Marion Dowd of Sligo-Leitrim Archaeological Services, the “the upper part of the skeleton was raised into the air trapped within the root system.” The place wasn’t known to be a burial site although historical records show there was a graveyard and church in the area.
